Unafraid may be one of the best ways to describe Alex Wolf. As the founder of Boss Babe, even after amassing an online following in the hundreds of thousands, Alex was not afraid to leave the company she once started. Instead, she decided to follow her intuition and listen to her inner voice.
Now, Alex is the author of her debut book entitled, “Resonate: For Anyone Who Wants To Build An Audience.” With a current focus on the fundamentals of human nature, Alex is most interested in what makes us compelled to share things as well as what makes us enthusiastic about brands.
In this episode of our WYL Take Ownership Podcast, Alex talks to us about lessons she learned from her father, her journey toward becoming confident, and her fascination with the Empire State Building.
Lessons From Dad...
“When it comes to the internet, we have so much power,” says Alex. When Alex was younger, her father told her that an AOL email address was an advertisement. Although this went over her head at the time, it stuck with her. Today, Alex realizes that what her father was instilling in her was the notion that she has enough power to be AOL. “That’s the point of having our own domain in our email address,” says Alex. “When we think of brands like Facebook, at some point they had to register a domain name and create a business. My dad taught me that this is a power we have as individuals and users of the internet.”
Alex’s Journey Toward Confidence...
“My journey toward becoming confident has been because I made the decision to be me,” says Alex. “Not being me is hell!!!” Alex also shares that there are two ways to live life. “Either we are super vulnerable as our authentic self or we can garnish our selves with titles that give us adoration and attention,” says Alex. “I think that people are afraid to take the shell off.”
On the contrary, there reaches a point where we become sick of living life under a shell. “I definitely had a few moments where I told myself that I am not going to do this anymore,” says Alex. “I’m not here to be worshiped. Having attention did not make me feel more validated. However, having friends to call when something really bad happens is worth everything.”
Alex’s Fascination With The Empire State Building…
“Part of what I think my job is as an artist is to get people excited about things,” says Alex. “To me, The Empire State Building represents prosperity and incentive driven work. When human beings want to get something done, they get it done. I think existence is amazing. I think the fact that we exist, we’re alive, we go to sleep, we wake up, and we’re here...is enough for me to appreciate.”
