Every step of moving into this house was extremely laborious and painful. Landlords took over a week to review our initial application, after informing us the process would only take a few days. Then, lease was not sent over until the day of the move-in. House was absolutely filthy and disgusting upon move-in, including, but not limited to: Dust, dirt, cobwebs all over the place, over 200 lbs. worth of junk left by previous tenants that we needed to clean up up and dispose of, toilet on the middle floor leaking on first day, gas took over a week and a half to be turned on, so we were without hot water or stove for over a week and a half, bugs all over the basement that seemed to be coming from the fireplace, backyard filled with junk, rotting wood, and dirt that we needed to clean up, dents & holes & terrible paintjobs on the walls, closet door upstairs not installed, towel & shower curtain racks not installed in upstairs bathroom, back patio door didn't lock, stove missing a pilot light, front door not closing properly, leaking roof, etc.,etc... Despite this, we were still willing to move in if proper compensation were to be provided given the: bugs, lack of gas, & state of the house upon move-in. Stefano admitted to us that, not only had he NOT read the lease, but had been confused about the date we were moving in (1st of the month)! He used this as an excuse for the house being in such horrible conditions. We made a verbal agreement with Stefano that we would not sign the lease until the aforementioned three things were taken care of (bugs, gas, overall state of the house), and he agreed to pro rate the rent until that day. As a sign of good faith, my roommate and I paid the full security deposit ($1,950, $975 each). Stefano's wife Dusty (who handled the money), sent me a message on PayPal claiming that she could not legally accept the money until a written agreement had been signed, and then promptly accepted our money anyways. Her and Stefano then went back on his agreement, claiming to not have found any bugs, and would not give us time to meet with an exterminator ourselves. He then refused to provide any compensation for our troubles, and sent us an email at 2 AM of the next day asking that we sign the lease by 5 PM later that day and pay the full rent, again, going against the agreement we had made with him. We decided to terminate our tenancy, and proceeded to pack our belongings. At around 5:30 PM, a police officer and a friend of Stefano's showed up, as apparently Stefano or Dusty had called the cops and had described us as unlawful trespassers. Luckily, we had packed up most of our belongings and were able to move them all out shortly. This took place on July 10. As of July 29, we still have not received the money for our security deposit back ($1,950). We have spoken to a lawyer and he has told us that this is illegal. Any attempts to contact Stefano or Dusty have been fruitless so far, and legal action will be pursued as a result. I highly advise to stay away from these people, as, not only do they not take care of their house or tenants, they also seem to be morally bankrupt as well. When my roommate and I were speaking to Stefano about the issues in the house, he would typically wave us off and say things such as "Oh, that shouldn't be like that" or "I've never seen that before", instead of taking our complaints seriously. By far my worst experience in living/moving into a new place.
